Key benchmark indices on Tuesday registered small losses on weak global cues. The S&P BSE Sensex, down 48.63 points or 0.17% at 28,999.56, as per closing data. The Nifty 50 index shed 16.55 points at 8,946.90. The Nifty has been floating below its key psychological level of 9000 this March but has been unable to break above it.
The BSE Midcap index outperformed to gain 0.1%, while BSE Smallcap was little changed. On the BSE, about 1650 shares declined and 1188 shares advanced and a total of 171 shares were unchanged.
The total BSE turnover figured to Rs 2910.79 crore, lower than turnover of Rs 2988.44 crore recorded during the previous trading session.
Meanwhile, investors also await the U.S Federal Reserve’s meeting scheduled next week, where it is anticipated to raise interest rates.
