Closing update- Sensex & Nifty registered tough losses on last trading day of the week, on weak global cues, in the midst of escalating concern between the US & North Korea. The BSE Sensex lost 317.74 pts or 1.01% to settle at 31213.59. The Nifty lost 109.45 pts or 1.11% to settle at 9710.80.
Key indices resumed falls for the fifth consecutive trading session. The Sensex settled to be its lowest level in over 5-1/2 weeks and Nifty settled at 5-week low.
Metal, mining stocks slipped. PSU bank stocks trimmed sharply. Shares of Cochin Shipyard witnessed strong debut on the exchanges today.
The market breadth, showing the overall vigor of the market, was weak. On the BSE, 1558 shares declined and 980 shares advanced and 129 shares were unchanged.
