The Indian markets ended on strong note on Monday closing. Sensex settled at 28661 up by 193 points whereas, Nifty ended up by 58 points at 8,879. Broader markets did better than the major indices today. BSE Mid-cap index closed at 13,514.49 levels, up by 91.60 points or 0.68%. BSE Small-cap index closed at 13,589.63 levels, up by 121.99 points or 0.91%.
TCS was the top Nifty gainer. TCS announced buyback up to 5,61,40,351 equity shares of the company for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 16,000 crore per equity share. HDFC Bank closed in green up 2.18%. Metal and mining stocks were in demand as copper prices rose in global commodity markets. Tata Steel (up 3.76%), Steel Authority of India (up 3.09%), NMDC (up 3.04%), Vedanta (up 2.47%), JSW Steel (up 1.65%), Hindustan Copper (up 1.4%), National Aluminium Company (up 0.86%), Hindustan Zinc edged higher (up 0.77%).
